Third Annual Hangover National
Another One For the Books
After the crummy weather on Friday, Saturday broke into a beautiful day and a fantastic turn out. There were racers here from all over the region; Kennedale "Killer Bee" racers, Houston, Austin, Angleton, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Victoria, Harlingen, Galveston and all points in between! We served up 200 pounds of chili, ran almost 500 pairs of cars, gave away door prizes, a 2004 Lone Star racer in the final rounds, and over 220 racers on Saturday. Whew! What a start to the 2005 racing season.
We’ll rewind the play by play beginning with the semi finals in Junior Dragsters. Mr. C.B. Banks III, an 8 year old from Austin, went .497 red on the starting line running close to his dial at 12.00 on an 11.70 dial. In the finals it was girl power all the way. LS’s Natasha Fogarty from Sugarland and Ashley Peterson from League City. Both racers broke out on a very close race. However, Natasha broke out the least with the win at 9.64 at 66.55 mph (9.61 dial in) to Ashley’s 8.89 at 70.85 mph (8.90 dial in).
In the semis for the Modified class, "The Instructor" David Junek from Temple lost with a .04 reaction time as he ran a 7.12 on a 7.14 dial in. The other semi finalist was Chuck Hoekstra from Katy getting a red light start and ran close on the dial at 7.31 on a 7.30 dial! In the final round it was another great finish with awesome reaction times. LS’s Chris Wood, from Magnolia driving his 52 Chevy, had a .07 to Dustin Bradford’s, Pipe Creek driving his 70’ Nova, .08. The win went to Bradford running a 6.96 on a 6.98 and Wood running a 7.14 on a 7.16 dial. What a close final round!
The next class to report to you on is the Electronics or Top ET Class. In the semi finals, Bruce Sizemore and Jay Robinson battled through the masses. Robinson ran a 7.02 on a 7.01 dial at 97.28 mph and Sizemore ran a 6.58 on a 6.54 dial at 103.93 mph. Talking to Bruce after the race, "This race is one of the most enjoyable races that I run. I had a great time." Robinson likewise stated it was a good way to start his 05’ season! Down to the final round. It was bracket finals winner Chuck Talley and Hangover National II & III finalist Ryan Miller. Identical .02 reaction times were going to make close ET’s a must. Miller gets the win light with a 4.92 on a 4.89 dial in at 133.10 mph. Talley ran a 5.64 on a 5.60 dial at 117.34 mph.
If you missed this race, you need to make a note on your 2006 calendar to be at this one. It’s the cheapest race you will run all season. We think that having a race were the entry fee is ... inexpensive ... sets a good atmosphere for a racer so that they can actually enjoy one day of racing for the sake of racing. The chili went over good too since as we didn’t have a rush for antacid’s or medical assistance from the EMT’s. Thanks to Larry with Cargo Pals, he did a super job with helping on the door prizes! Finally, thanks again to all of you that attended our season opener! We hope you all had a good time.
