The 4th Annual Southern Big Buck Nationals returned to No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, LA, February 10-12, 2017. Over 240 cars showed up in attendance. Jay Robinson had an awesome weekend, going to three final round in two days, as well as Greg Parr from River Ridge, LA bringing home the $10k check Saturday night.
Friday started off with Test N Tune and then went straight into the free race. It’s a combo race but No Box and Box is kept separate until the ladder at eight cars or less.
Once again this year a No Box racer picked up the win, as Jay Robinson took the win over Box racer Jack Collier. Collier was .052 at the tree, and went 4.459 on his 4.48 dial trying to turn on the win light. Robinson was .020 and went 6.525 on his 6.49 dial for the win.
Also, Friday night there was a 32-car shootout that paid $5k to win. Koy Collier picked up the win in the shootout Friday night.
On Saturday, 126 cars showed up for Box Round 1, when the final round came around, it was Greg Parr taking on Danny Martinez. Martinez in his dragster, was .053 and went 5.078 on his 5.05 dial. Parr, driving the Mustang, was .004, and went 5.666 on his 5.64 dial, picking up the win, and the $10k check.
No Box had 115, and Nick Hastings took on John Vance, out of Alabama. Hastings, the Ohio runner, was .043 and went 6.294 on his 6.30. Vance, was .042 and went 6.493 on his 6.48 dial to light up the win light in his lane and take home the $3k check.
Saturday night bought the shootout races with big money up for grabs. In the Box Shootout final, Jay Robinson making another final round appearance picked up another win over Brad Esteves. Esteves, was .018, and went 5.316 on his 5.32 dial. Robinson, foot-braking against the delay boxes, was .044, and went 6.503 on his 6.49 dial.
In the No Box shootout, Nick Hastings, who was runner-up earlier in the day in the main event race, squared off with Jay Robinson. Robinson, making his third final round appearance, in less than 24 hours, was .024 and went 6.484 on his 6.49 dial for the runner-up effort. Hastings, was .001 and went 6.289 on his 6.29 dial for the win.
On Sunday, everybody was trying to get that last little piece of the pie. In the Box final, it was Mississippi vs. Texas, Adam Russell, the Mississippi runner, driving the dragster, faced off with Clint White. White, driving his Camaro, turned the red bulb on by 002, handing the win to Russell. Russell was .012, and coasted his way down for the win.
Jeff Thompson picked up the win in his Luv truck in No Box, as Larry Seguin turned it red in the final round also.
