SGMP TAKES THRID TEAM TITLE

South Georgia Motorsports Park scored their third Team Championship in a row at the NHRA Southeast Division Summit Racing Series Finals as four individual racers advance to the Summit Racing Series National Championship.

The team from Valdosta, Ga., collected 60 points to lead a field of 10 teams with Auto Plus Raceway at Gainesville holding on for second at 52 and Silver Dollar Raceway, Reynolds, Ga., third at 51.

It was a family feud in the Motorcycle Final round as Roy Hagadorn met up with his wife Candy for the championship and bragging rights. Roy took win and the trophy in a double breakout as the pair road identical ’81 Suzuki motorcycles. Roy had a slight advantage at the starting line running a 5.584 second lap on his 5.60 dial to Candy who went 5.639 (5.66 dial) at 119.94 mph.

With the win, Roy advances to the Summit Racing Series National Championship in Pomona, Calif., where he will be joined by David Scigliuto, Kelly King, and Daniel Salyers who also won this weekend. The four will do battle with the winner’s from the other six NHRA Divisions as they complete for a purse of more than $100,000.

Scigliuto, Seminole, Fla., worked his way through the Super Pro field and into a final round match up with Jonathan Pope, Byron, Ga. The two left the line together but Scigliuto was better at the finish by about nine feet to take the win and the trophy in his ’04 dragster.

Stockbridge, Ga., racer King, wheeled a ’71 Vega to a 6.434 second, 101 mph win over Mark Neeld, Middleburg, Fla., in the Pro class as Salyers won in the Sportsman category. Salyers, Reddick, Fla., went 10.374 seconds in his ’05 Chevy P/U to beat Brett Veneman, Jacksonville, Fla., at 8.238 in his ’93 Mustang.

In the Division’s Jr. Drag Racing League Championship it was Taylor Bouldry leading the way out of Sarasota, Fla., taking the win over Drew Hostetter in the 13-17 year old class. Jordan Holley and Michael Carpenter took the wins for the 10-12 and 8-9 year olds as Holley, Zebulon, Ga., held off Gage Burch, Palmetto, Fla., and Carpenter won a close one over Caraline McCarty, Hazelhurt, Ga., who also advanced to the final in the 8-9 year old Race of Champions earlier in the weekend.
