Veteran big buck professional bracket racer Dave Szerlag from Livonia, Michigan was born into the sport of racing. His father, Jim Szerlag a former NHRA stock eliminator racer from the 1960’s and 1970’s, was his major influence and inspiration.

Dave’s bother-in-law is 2 time IHRA world champ and previous Racer of the Month, Mike Fuqua from Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Dave is currently 32 years old and began his racing career when he was 16 years old. Dave has a long list of accomplishments, including several $5,000 and $10,000 wins along with a $20,000 runner up and a $50,000 win last year.

Great Lakes Dragway, Tri State, Mid-Michigan, Bowling Green Tenn Tuck, IHRA events, and Super Ford Races are just a few of the places this racer has taken home victories.

The way things are going for Dave,
we are looking at a possible 2001 B&M Division III Championship.

He currently owns and races a 2000 Worthy 4-Link Dragster. This car, to put it mildly, is quite a show piece equipped with fab rear housing, Strange axle, Precision Gear, ATI glide, and 9” converter, 4.10 gear, 17.5x33.5x16 Goodyear tires with Weld Magnum wheels, AutoMeter gauges, Biondo Mega 400 box, B&M air shifter, Grant wheel, Demon Fuel System, Painless wiring system, Mezier cooling system and N.O.S. nitrous system with Hooker Headers, along with an excessive amount of chrome. 532 Big Block Ford SVO 460 Race Block Moldex billit crankshaft, Corillo con rods, Wiesco pistons (13.8) to crane roller cam, lifters, and rockers, Moroso oil pan, ATI balancer, TFS A- 460 aluminum cylinder heads, Manley valves and springs, A-460 single carb intake manifold with MSD ignition and Demon carburation. The engine was built and combination designed by Dave Selvig of Kinetic Racing Engines.

Performance best is a 7.698 at 175.26 MPH. Custom paint by Ron Leach of Ron's Auto Body of Cincinnati, Ohio.

In the year 2000, Dave received 2 BEST APPEARING and BEST ENGINEERED Awards.
