T.J. TRACY
TJ began going racing when he was only a month old. His dad ran NHRA Stock Eliminator. He spent many of his younger years learning about cars and racing by spending lots of time in the garage and at the track with his dad. He decided to take a stab at building his own car when he was 16. He chose a 65 Chevy II, not surprising since his dad had mostly raced Chevy Novas. His first motor was a 406 small-block Chevy. While this was his first race car it was also his daily driver so the car couldn't be as radical as he would have liked.
In 1994 he was given the opportunity to drive a Super Gas Camaro. He won his first race in this car in Jackson TN in September of the same year. He continued to do well in this car. But, he still wanted to own his own race car. He was finally given this opportunity by a generous fellow racer; who allowed him to drive his dragster on a pay as you win basis. He began driving the dragster in the 1996 season. He was a having a problem with the motor one weekend and decided to run high-gear only. People scratched their heads when they learned what he was doing but, it was on this set up that he won his first ten grander at Memphis Motorsports Park (his home track) in August of 1996. So, he was finally able to pay off his dragster and own it out right. However this did not leave him with a lot of spare cash. He had a burning desire to go to the Inaugural Million Dollar race. And that he did. Foregoing paying his house note and in a borrowed dually he headed for Huntsville and the rest is history, as they say.
Winning
that race afforded him the opportunity to start his own business, Advanced
Performance. A company specializing in Electronic Fuel Injection for whatelse,
race cars. He also sells those High-Gear only setups mentioned earlier.
This is a dream come true for him; someone who has lived, breathed and loved
racing all his life.
He has had some rough starts the past couple of seasons but ended up finishing strong. This season seems to be a bit different. He finally listened to his wife and did not "tweak" things. He left the motor just as it was at the end of last year and has thankfully started off this season strong. We can only hope that the luck will stay with him throughout the season.
TJ has been blessed by meeting such good people through racing. There have been so many that have come out of the wood work so to speak to lend an helping hand. I (Judy, his wife) have truly been amazed and touched at the brotherhood there is among racers.
For this TJ would like to say THANKS to all of you.
