Constructing the 1998/99 Corvette took nearly a year, and included moving to a larger shop to accommodate the project. Now production time on the corvette is three to four weeks. When received, the Corvette was waxed, approximately ten times, with mold release wax. All the cracks (door jams, door handles, lights, air dams, etc.) were filled with 40 lbs. of clay. Once all this preparation work was done a portion of the car was taped off and the untapped portion was sprayed with gel coat. Ten layers of fiberglass was applied to the gel coat to construct the mold. The remainder of the car was done in the same fashion. Once the mold was completed it was separated from the car. Inspection of the mold revealed slight imperfections which were repaired. Once all the imperfections were corrected a body was made from, the mold.
This body was then modified to become the plug which we used to make the production mold. Once the mold was finally completed, a body was made. The chassis which was already designed and built was placed upside down in the mold so that secondary molds for (tubs, body stiffeners, etc.) could be made. When all of these molds were completed, the parts were made and installed in the first production body. The body was fitted to the chassis and mounted in its funny car style. The first car has been featured in Bracket Racing Magazine and Drag Racing Magazine. In its first outing at the NHRA World Nationals it won best engineered and best appearing car award. A week later it won best engineered award at the NHRA US Nationals. Performance was second to none. Now there are many of these cars in the U.S. and Canada, look for a car near your home track.

Don Davis Race Cars is leading the industry with innovative sportsman race cars. With over 40 years of car building experience Don Davis Race Cars is changing the way sportsman cars are built, in drive ability and ease of maintenance. Located in El Paso, TX the Don Davis facility is a large industrial facility equipped with all of the latest equipment. All cars are completely fixtured and professionally tig welded to ensure quality. Also due to the extensive fixturing process all parts are interchangeable and replacements are easily obtainable. The facility houses it's own fiberglass shop which produces all fiberglass parts seen on all our cars. Fiberglass is a major component in the success of Don Davis Race Cars. Having gained an extensive knowledge of composites allows us to produce a part which is exactly what we want. Our staff is strongly qualified in plug making, mold making, and part construction. We have also developed new techniques which others shops are now trying to emulate. Our fiberglass staff is continually looking for ways to improve strength, lighten, and reduce cost of all our composite products. Composite products are now available for sale such as, fiberglass dragster noses, kick outs, seats, and consoles. Also available is the 27 Ford body.
Don Davis began raising the standards in the 1980's with the introduction of a super gas 1927 T Ford Roadster. This car has been an overwhelming success due to its lightening quick reactions, large sleek interior, and deadly repeatable performance. Innovative construction techniques allow for the highest levels of quality throughout construction in exceptionally fast production times. Even though 27T's of other manufactures are the same dimensions outside the interior of ours is able to accommodate drivers in excess of six feet tall and three hundred pounds. The driver fits in the car as though it's a traditional car with both feet on the same side. This improves driver control, safety, and driver comfort. The motor is offset to compensate for the driver weight. The Ford Roadster has won countless awards, national events, and also national championships. Currently there is over 60 of these cars throughout the country including Hawaii, Canada, and Australia. This car has become the standard of the industry and the mark for others to try and achieve. We still produce the same roadster that we have had for over 15 years. Through continual refining performance continues to increase. Roller packages are available from $16,495.00 to completed cars.
Don Davis Race Cars also builds super comp. dragsters. This car line has quickly gained national recognition for it's tremendous rigidity, spring loaded chassis, front brake arrangement, and properly built suspension. This car was built and engineered for the serious super comp. racer to compete in nation events and to be a winner. There are many of these cars which compete at national events. Like the roadster, it has been racking up its share of awards (both best engineered and best appearing), and national events. These awards usually are based on the cars suspension, clean design, and repeatable performance. In its first year it received more than ten best engineered awards at national events and divisional races. The most recent win was the Winter Nationals with Jimmy Lewis winning Super Comp. Our unique swing arm monoshock suspension will hook up hard at any track, any time, with any tire and remain consistent. Common reports we hear from our customers, "Eleven passes exactly the same!", on a cold track. "Two thousands difference in my six passes, I guess it's the lanes." It is claimed that the only harder leaving machine on this planet is the space shuttle. Roller packages for this car start at $11,995.00. Also available is a traditional hard tail non-suspended dragster for the local bracket racing market. This car features many of the same features as the super comp car but with a lower price. Rollers with wheels and tires are available from $7995.00, completed cars of this style are also available.
Our latest introduction is the 1999 Corvette Roadster. This nationally recognized car is far superior to any other, and is only the first in a long line of Corvettes to come. As sportsman racing continues to become more of a business than a hobby the requirements will become more stringent by the drivers to aid them in ease of maintenance. Don Davis Race Cars has already set the standard and will continue to raise this standard for years to come. After being so successful with the 27 T Ford we wanted to build something that was comparable, but, featured newer more sophisticated upgrades to aid the driver. The obvious feature is the flip up body similar to a funny car. However the body does not flex, in fact it is strong enough to support a 250 pound man in the center of the body. The cockpit area is very large but offers plenty of visibility, features comfortable seating, and with easy accessibility to all switches and necessary controls. Imagine changing a torque converter in about 15 minutes, it's possible with the use of our unique transmission slide arrangement. The car utilizes the same 4-link arrangement of our successful 27T roadster. The car is completely adjustable from the heart stopping 6 foot wheel stands to the hard hitting low leaves. So take your pick trip the 60 foot clocks with the front or back wheels. Rollers of this car start at $19995.00 with wheels and tires other packages are also available.
Advancements in production and product to enhance performance, user friendliness, and cost effectiveness is what sets Don Davis Race Cars above the rest. Most completion times average three to four weeks. New projects are always under construction such as the latest 1957 Corvette which will set the world on fire. A whole line of Corvettes are planned ranging from the 1950's to 1990's and beyond. Mopar fans should also stay tuned for your sports car which is already being planned. Latest services to the public included a full line of dragster parts and accessories available for any level of completion.
The simple truth is that our cars work better, are easier to maintain, and hold a higher resale value than others. Our toughest competition is our own used cars.
