Ed Curtis from Antioch, Illinois
is our featured Racer of the Month!

In 1981 at the age of 16, Ed won the first race he ever entered. It was at Great Lakes Dragway in Illinois. He was driving his 1962 Chevy II in the ET2 class which is known now as the Pro Class.

He married and soon after was expecting to become a Dad for the first time. He took a break from racing in 1985 and didn’t return back to the sport until 1992. He returned driving a 1991 Camaro owned by Dave Wilson.

After a successful season with the Camaro, Ed bought a 1977 Vega. It wasn’t long until Ed Curtis was back in victory lane. Winning various races driving his 1977 Vega where he earned the title of Track Champion in Super Pro at Great Lakes Dragway in Wisconsin in 1994.

After the championship at Great Lakes, Ed continued to run Great Lakes, Rt. 66, and Byron where he finished top three in the points seven years running!

In 1999, Ed drove a 1967 Nova for Tom Williams sponsored by Oil Eater in the Pro Class. It was during that year that Ed finished both 2nd in S/Pro and 2nd in Pro. Parts breakage in both classes resulted in 2nd place finishes.

In the year 2000, Ed earned 1st in Super Pro in the 1977 Vega and 2nd in Pro with the 1967 Nova at Rt. 66 Raceway. Driving the Nova, Ed was first in the points chase until the car broke. He dropped down to 13th in the points. Later, after making repairs, he would climb back to the 2nd place points position to end the year.

The year 2000 resulted in nine final round appearances at various tracks. Ed was awarded Drag News Magazine's “ Run For The Ring Champion.” (At a Run Ror The Ring race, the event's three winners in S/Pro, Pro and Street have a run off for the championship ring.)

Ed Curtis was also awarded “Winner of Rons Flying Toilet” for having the most number of final round appearances while running the flying toilet.

Ed earned the champion in both S/Pro and Pro in the “Whites Pits Stop Racing Series” in 2000.

In the up and coming season, with the support of Oil Eater, Ed’s plans include running NHRA Super Comp Events in his 1977 Vega, the Division 3 B&M Series, track points at Byron Dragway in Illinois, and as many Big Buck Events that he is able to fit into his schedule.

“Many thanks go out to my wife Michelle and my two daughters Tessa, and Carli, my brother, Bill and his wonderful family, and my mom, Marlene.”

"To the following companies, Rons Fuel Injection, Don Stanley of TSI Transmissions, and Oil Eater — thank you for all your support."
