RACER OF THE MONTH, Chris Bear

aturday night at the 2003 CITGO Bracket Racing Series / Auto City Nationals in Milan Michigan Mike Ledford took a final round win over 19 year old Chris Bear of Northwood Ohio. For any teen driver a final round appearance in a 10K race would be a career highlight. But, Chris Bear is not any teen driver and running up is not something he looks forward to. With multiple track championships and big buck wins Bear starts every race with one goal and one goal only – the winners circle.

To prove his desire Bear returned to the finals the very next day at Milan. There he raced, at beat, his Bear Motorsports teammate Randy Sheuer Jr. The 2003 season marks ten years of winning for Bear with his first big crowning being the NHRA 10 year old Junior Dragster World Championship in 1994. This would be followed by year after year of dominance in both Jr and bracket fields.

As a Junior driver Bear enjoyed five track Championships at his home track of Norwalk Raceway Park. He was also crowned Grand Champion there three times. He reached the finals in the Northstar Bracket Finals in both 1996 and 1997. 1997 also brought wins at Indy and the Jeg’s Buckeye Open. He would return to the Buckeye Open to take wins in 1999 and a Top Eliminator win in 2000.

Bear would finish his Jr career with big wins at Quaker City, the Gritz Blitz and a return to the winners circle at the Northstar Bracket Finals. Finally, the 2001 Mike Bos Jr Dragster Nationals – winning two classes and the Manufacturer’s Cup.

With just two years behind the wheel of full dragster Bear has seen wins at the 2002 Moser Super Axle Shoot-out and now the CITGO Bracket Racing Series. He now finds a 1999 Undercover under his seat with a John Kyle ((Advance Product Design.) built 565 Chevy. With the support of a great team and some of the better teammates in bracket racing, expect to see the Chris Bear name in result reports for years to come.
