Racer of the Month

Kenny is 46 years old and has lived in Ohio all his life. Growing up in Kettering, Ohio and currently resides in West Carroliton.

Being a second generation racer it is easy to see how the sport of dragracing was introduced to Ken at an early age. He built streetcars up until the late 1970’s. Going to the dragstrip and racing himself came along in the early 1980’s.

In 1982 Kenny built a 1970 Camaro and began bracket racing. He would race at Tri-State,KilKare, and Muncie Dragways. Tri-State was his track of choice. In 1986 at Tri-State’s first annual Rainbow Classic your winner was Ken Sullivan, that same day a little race was also held (or duck race as some racers refer) and in the late night with friends and family they waited to see the win light in Ken’s lane!

Through the years at Tri-State he has held 2 Track Championships. His first one in 1992 and again in 1994. Kenny remained a top 10 team finalist from the mid 1980’s through the mid 1990’s.

The fever struck and Big Money races followed. Racers like Ike Hamma, The Folk Brothers, and Royce Miller were a few of the racers who were attending these races that Ken found deep respect for.

In 1989 to 1990 the decision was made to build the car he always knew would work for him. It was one of the first 4-link dragsters in the bracket circle. Built by Dwight Fox of Fox Chassis in Springfield, Ohio. The car was deadly! More races were won that first than Ken can remember. In the early 1990’s he attained more of his personal goals in drag racing. In Milan, Michigan his first $5,000 win followed with 2 $10,000 races in Memphis.

After a bad year in 1998, he sold out and started driving for Allen Wickell from Saraland, Alabama. Ken doesn’t mind in the least that many drivers think that it is Allen behind the wheel and repeatedly call him so. Getting into this car proved to be a good move and races were won .

So far 1999 has been another great year at the races. Winnings include three, $10,000 races one, $5,000 race, and numerous finishes in the semi finals. Kenny has enjoyed the winnings of over $45,000 this year!

Many thanks go first to The Good Lord, My loving and understanding wife, Diane 2 wonderful sons, Kyle and Brett,(who are now popping up at the race tracks) Both my parents, and longtime friend George Antrobious, my friend and Chassis Builder, Dwight Fox, Engine builder Paul Lucas, and the Track owner at Tri-State Dragway, Bob Louden and family.
