Welcome to DragraceResults.Com, the official website of Edmond Richardson racing. This site will feature monthly updates on the progress of two-time NHRA World Champion Edmond Richardson, Jason Lynch, championships in Super Stock, Stock, and Super Comp Eliminators, and run for big money at many of the nation's largest E.T. Bracket races. Edmond Richardson/BorgWarner Automotive Racing
It’s been a busy couple of months here at Edmond Richardson, Inc. The racing season for the BorgWarner Automotive team started in early January with a weekend series of three big races at DeSoto Memorial Dragway in Bradenton, Fla. I was lucky enough to win one, a $5,000 E.T. bracket race, and I also posted a runner-up finish in a Super Comp Association event, and finished the weekend with a quarterfinal finish in another $5,000 race, all in my BorgWarner dragster. I actually felt like I had a chance to win all three races, but I red-lighted in the second $5,000 race with a .498, wasting a dead-on run. All in all, it wasn’t a bad way to start the year, though. The NHRA points chase began at the Division 2 Federal-Mogul Series race in Orlando, where my teammate, Jason Lynch, and I brought our four-car team. I drove my dragster in Super Comp and my ’69 Camaro in Stock and Jason also raced a Super Comp dragster, in addition to his SS/IA ’66 Chevy II. We didn’t have a lot of luck in Orlando, though I did manage a quarterfinal finish in Super Comp. Jason had worse luck than I did, as he broke the engine in the Super Stock car. With two connecting rods hanging out the side of the block, there wasn’t much of a chance for us to get the engine put back together in time for the Mac Tools Gatornationals the following week, so we borrowed a GT/JA Olds from longtime Super Stock racer Bob Dennis. The dry spell didn’t last long though, as one week after the Gatornationals in Gainesville, I hit the jackpot again at the three $10,000 bracket races at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, Ky. I won the first night, going eight tough rounds, and the car was just phenomenal. It saved me a couple of times. I lost in the third round on Saturday despite a .503 light and a dead-on run, which shows you just how humbling this game can be. However, I got to the final round again on Sunday. Just as I was getting ready to race Cincinnati’s Ken Sullivan, it rained, ending the weekend. Ken and I decided to split the money, and we flipped a coin for the points. He won the coin toss, but I’m still third in the points and there is a $10,000 bonus that goes to the champion at the end of the nine-race season, so I’ll be back at the next one, for sure. All the racing stuff has been great, but my greatest thrill this year, by far, has been the birth of my son, Austin Lee Richardson, on March 4. I race for a living and I take it very seriously, but somehow when you see your child being born, it sort of puts things in perspective. Suddenly, wins and losses aren’t as important as family and health. Fortunately, I feel like I’ve been blessed on both fronts, as I have a great wife, Sue, and four healthy children, Ashley, Ryan, Blake, and now Austin. As a matter of fact, Austin made his first appearance at the races in Bowling Green, so he got to see me win a race already. Next up for the Richardson family and the BorgWarner team is a three week tour of Texas, where we will hit the NHRA national events in Houston and Dallas, with a big money bracket race in Seeley, Texas sandwiched in the middle. The two national events are probably very familiar to everyone, but the track in Seeley is a brand new eighth-mile, about 85 miles west of Houston. They are hosting a $10,000 race and a $50,000 race and I hope they get a lot of support from the racers. I’m taking the whole family to Texas with me and in between races; we’re going to spend a few days on the beach in Galveston. I don’t get many chances to take a vacation anymore, so I have to make the most of each one. Jason and I are going to switch cars at the Houston race. He’s going to run my Stocker and I’m, going to run in Super Stock with his Chevy II. We had a few things that we want to sort out, including the new engine in his Chevy II, and I don’t want to lose a chance for either of use to earn points. I’m not going for the championship in Super Stock, and he isn’t trying to win Stock, so we can just concentrate on winning a few rounds. I’ll have another progress report once we get back from Texas, where hopefully, the BorgWarner Automotive/Jon Bleakley RV Center’s team will be able to continue our success. Thanks again for your support, Edmond Richardson |
