Stricklands Dominate; Williams Jr. Takes Points Lead
07/14/03
Bowling Green, KY

eteran racers Don and Jeff Strickland stole the show this past weekend during the second leg of the legendary three-race 2003 TN TUCK series at Beech Bend. Jeff Strickland of Red Bay, AL, drove his Undercover Chassis dragster to a huge win over East Coast hitter Dan Northop. The two racers had to re-run the race because of problems with the timing system. Beech Bend Raceway owner Dallas Jones -- promoter and originator of the series -- then raised the pot $3,000 for the racers' trouble. Both racers left with $8,000.

In the second chance event, Bradenton, FL, racer Troy Williams Jr., driving the Bloomfield entry, defeated the Camaro of Minnesota's Myron Streights' AGITATOR Camaro.

Saturday's race action was over by 7:30 pm. Two racers, Don Strickland from Red Bay, AL and Danny Castle of Ohio were the big money winners. Strickland defeated Turtle Dickerson from Nashville in a double break out race -- .004 for Strickland and .007 for Dickerson. Dickerson from Nashville had the better light but couldn't parlay it together at the stripe for the TN TUCK CROWN. In the second chance race Danny Castle from Ohio defeated the red hot Greg Coffman from Kentucky. Sunday's action was all about (who else?) Scott Richardson. Richardson, who went several rounds Friday and Saturday, made it count on Sunday as he often does. Richardson defeated Jeff Gilman from Michigan driving his Race Tech dragster. For Scott Richardson the win caps off several final round appearances in the last few weeks. In Sunday's second chance race, Greg Spencer defeated the always tough Kenny Smith of Morgantown, IN.

The points battle has really heated up in '03 as Stephen Hughes of Texas, who led going in to this event, has now moved to second place. The new sheriff in town is Troy Williams Jr. Third place is the former NHRA world champ Scotty Richardson followed by brother Edmond Richardson. The points chase is wide open going into the final weekend in October.
