Fuller, Meziere Take 5K Wins at Vegas
02/09/04 Las Vegas, NV ot Rod Fuller of Las Vegas saved the day for the local racers by winning the final $5,000 Super Pro check Sunday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Friday and Saturdays first-place payoffs went to California-based teams. Fullers Valvoline-sponsored dragster defeated Mike Blodgett, who won Friday night.Al Murawski of Long Beach, Calif., claimed the $1,000 first place check for the Pro division. John Irving of Boulder City won the Street finale on Friday and Sunday. The Strips overall champions for the three-day B&M Vegas Bracket Championship were Mike Blodgett (Super Pro) and Scott Huntsman. Blodgett collected $6,500 for his victory on Friday and runner-up on Sunday. Run-for-the-Money winners included: Jennifer Carey (Pro), Bryan King (Super Pro) and Ralph Gibney Jr. (Street). Don Meziere of Escondido, Calif., became the second big winner of the weekend when he defeated John Phlegar of Las Vegas in the $5,000-to-win Super Pro finale Saturday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Saturdays drag races were switched from quarter-mile to eighth-mile in length due to windy conditions at the track. The Strips three-day B&M Vegas Bracket Championship concludes on Sunday. Scott Huntsman of West Valley City, Utah, won the final round of Pro competition and Lloyd Miyashiro of San Dimas, Calif., claimed Street honors. Run-for-the-Money winners included: Dennis Paz (Pro), Don Meziere (Super Pro) and Grace Creason (Street). |
