Herbert Carolina Coalition racers Divide $42K in Bonuses
01/19/04 Greensboro, NC  he top performers in the second annual Doug Herbert Performance Products Carolina Coalition Drag Racing Series received bonus checks totaling $42,275 as a highlight to the Champions Banquet at The Khoury Center at Four Seasons.The biggest share of the bonus money ($10,000) went to Raeford's Tommy Strickland for winning the Top Eliminator title in his dragster. Footbrake Champ Richard Alford Jr. of Raleigh took home $5,000. More than 300 racers and guests attended the year-end function which recognized the Top 20 point producers in Top Eliminator and Footbrake and the Top 10 in Jr. Dragster, a category in which Grayson Lister of Taylors, S.C., accepted a $1,000 champion's bonus. In addition to more than $42,000 in bonus money, the series paid out more than $300,000 in purses during the 2003 season which consisted of two events each at Farmington Dragway, Mooresville Dragway and Piedmont Dragway and three events at Rockingham Dragway. In addition to the Carolina Coalition awards, which including the presentation of the Beal Racing Engines Sportsmanship Award to the Lister family, the banquet also feted the 2003 track champions at Farmington, Mooresville and Piedmont. Series promoters announced that the 2004 Herbert Carolina Coalition Series will consist of eight races, two at each of the participating tracks. The series again will begin (March 6-7) and end (Sept. 18-19) at Rockingham Dragway, also home to two IHRA Hooters Drag Racing Series events. |
